Prometheus Business Intelligence - Components

Following is an overview of the components which make up a Prometheus Business Intelligence solution. For a more detailed and technical perspective, see the 'Whitepapers' sections.

The Prometheus Business Intelligence system is a fully integrated suite of five major software components:

  1. Automated Data Processing (ADP) software, which automatically extracts and transforms raw input data
  2. Business Logic Modules (BLM's), which encapsulate business logic and data relationships
  3. Network Server software, which distributes the stored information across networks
  4. Desktop Client, used to explore and extract meaning from the data
  5. Web Access, which provides access to the stored information using a web server and web browser clients
With these integrated components, Prometheus BI can overcome the problems that other BI systems suffer from:
  • a BLM for a vertical market segment needs only minor customisations for a particular client, avoiding long and expensive consultancies
  • the ADP system allows the client to add updated data to the system at whatever schedule they desire
  • the range of value added to the data, such as in-depth statistical analyses and geographic data, allow meaningful explorations, comparisons and predictions to be performed
  • the powerful Integrated Analysis Environment of the Prometheus Desktop Client allows fast, intuitive mining of the data - users can specify exactly what they want to ask. Queries can be instantly redesigned or refined, and the suite of integrated presentation tools allow the user to choose the best means of displaying the information; a humble table, graphs and frequency charts, or a map of Australia

Prometheus Automated Data Processing
The Prometheus Automated Data Processing (ADP) software is an extremely powerful and flexible ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) system.

Data files drawn from the corporation's various data silos are deposited into the ADP input area. The ADP system automatically recognizes the presence of new data, and processes it into new information that is then deposited into the Prometheus BI data repository.

Prometheus Business Logic Modules
A Prometheus Business Logic Module (BLM) is a software module written in a high-level language specially developed for the Prometheus BI system. This high-level language, combined with the capabilities of the Prometheus BI software, enables the succinct expression of complex corporate business logic. Business Logic Modules control the processing of input data and determine the structure and interrelationships of the information stored in the Prometheus BI data repository.

Prometheus Network Servers
Prometheus BI servers are used to share Business Intelligence across a network. Servers do all the work needed to process a particular query, and all the Prometheus Desktop Clients need to do is connect to the server to receive the finished report. Reports are also saved on the server, so retrieving a query that has already been processed in instantaneous. Servers also ensure that all clients have the most recent data available.

Servers are not a mandatory component of the Prometheus BI system - the Prometheus Desktop Client can operate as a standalone product. However, the Prometheus BI server allows many clients to explore the same data simultaneously, which is useful in large organisations.

Prometheus Desktop Client
The Prometheus Desktop Client empowers the user to explore the data through tables, maps and graphs in an Integrated Analysis Environment. The sophisticated Graphical User Interface enables users to work across the full range of data in a flexible and consistent fashion. The design of complex queries is made easy through an entirely menu-driven system. The powerful classification capability adds value to the stored data by providing informative groupings of the data elements. Metadata and documentation on all data and elements are available at all times. Complex statistical calculations are available at the click of a mouse. The correct relationships between the disparate pieces of data are maintained at all times by the business logic encoded into the system.

Prometheus Web Access
Prometheus Web Access is a fully interactive web application allowing users to dynamically generate tables, maps and graphs to their own specifications. The web client runs within a standard web browser and requires no plugins or special software downloads. The system backend connects to a standard web server and provides access to the full range of data stored in the Prometheus Business Intelligence data repository.

A special feature of the Prometheus Web Access system is its provision for predefined reports. Reports can be created using the Prometheus Desktop Client and then simply copied into an appropriate folder on the web site. The system presents these reports to the user as an expandable tree of folders and stored reports. A single click on a stored report presents the user with a tabbed display showing a description of the query, notes associated with the data, and the multiple tables, maps and graphs specified in the report. The repository of predefined reports provides an excellent way for corporations to disseminate key analyses and information across the entire organisation.
